Late Wednesday, the Ohio House voted 64-29 to pass HB 347, the She Wins Act, which will require a consideration period before the life-altering decision of abortion is made.

The practice of allowing time between information about a medical procedure and the procedure itself is standard across all areas of medicine. Patients undergoing surgical or serious medical procedures are routinely given time to review information, ask questions, and reflect before proceeding.

This process affirms patient autonomy, strengthens trust in the medical system, and ensures decisions are made deliberately and with full awareness of potential Risk and consequences. The She Wins Act applies this same standard of care to abortion procedures, recognizing that women deserve the same safeguards afforded in other medical procedures. This approach respects women as capable decision-makers who deserve the dignity of time, clarity, and support.

Because the radical pro-abortion advocates don’t trust women to make an informed decision, organizations like Abortion Forward have promised to challenge this law in the courts.

“These waiting periods, they’re not reasonable,” Kellie Copeland, Executive Director of Abortion Forward, said in an interview.

“We will challenge it immediately,” said Jessie Hill, a law professor at Case Western Reserve University who directs the law school’s Reproductive Rights Law Initiative.

After the Easter recess, the bill will now go to the Ohio Senate, where it is expected to pass.
