Our Opportunity to Undo Ohio's Abortion Amendment

As many of you know, Make Abortion History is currently underway throughout Ohio. This initiative, spearheaded by Created Equal, is our opportunity to overturn our state’s constitutional amendment enshrining abortion. The results from their initial test in Central Ohio last year are astounding.

Between their pre-campaign polling and polling six-months after the campaign’s conclusion:

• There was a net shift of +17.2% toward the pro-life position.

• On perception of abortion not being a constitutional right, there was a net shift of +11.4% in our favor.

• On the question of whether abortion should be a “constitutional right,” there was a net shift of +11.8% towards a pro-life policy.

If these stats are indicative of persuadable voters across Ohio, this means that a heartbeat amendment in the near future is a real possibility, allowing us to undo the disaster of the November 2023 election. However, we cannot be certain of this without testing the updated Make Abortion History model this year.

Involving a combination of streaming ads and canvassing at the doors of citizens in our community, volunteers are essential to the success of this endeavor. Different regions of the state have different cultures; the mindset of people in Columbus is different from those in Cincinnati, Cleveland different from Toledo.  Therefore, it is imperative that we visit as many doors as possible before the end of August.

This cannot be accomplished without the assistance of dedicated volunteers who want to abolish abortion in Ohio, and this why we need you. If we want to be a voice for the voiceless, we must begin now.

Our Blessed Lord tells us “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16).

We must heed this call to be witnesses for God’s kingdom. If we fail to do the work of evangelizing the gospel of life, then Ohio will continue to lose thousands of lives to abortion annually. However, if we speak with our neighbors about the dignity of every human life, we can transform our culture and save countless lives of generations to come.

Furthermore, if we begin to plant seeds in people’s minds now, those seeds will grow over the next few years and bring individuals closer to the pro-life position. In turn, we will have an easier time covering ground when a proposed amendment is placed on the ballot.

Last year’s statics support this point. After the official Make Abortion History campaign ended in 2025, polling showed only a +13.2% shift toward the pro-life position. But polling six months later found that more people changed their minds as they reflected upon the pro-life messaging, increasing an additional +4% to the +17.2% noted at the beginning of this article. This is proof that when our neighbors not only see pro-life commercials but also engage in friendly dialogue, there is a long-lasting impact on their view of the preborn.

Are you willing to join us in this effort to save lives in Ohio? For anyone who may be hesitant:

• We can have another group training (with dinner provided) to go over details, answer any questions, and equip you with the tools needed to have a conversation.

• There will be weekend group outings to different neighborhoods so that you are not alone.

• I plan to go canvassing during the weekdays and welcome you to shadow me to observe what canvassing looks like in action—you will not need to speak a single word.

  
  

Here are some insights into the success throughout Ohio thus far this summer that I hope will encourage you:

• Canvassers knocked on 19,273 doors statewide and had a total of 3,845 conversations.

• After canvassers talk with residents, the number of voters in our target audience opposing abortion completely or at the detectable heartbeat increases 5%.

• By contrast, the number of voters supporting abortion past the heartbeat drops by 8%.
