Toledo, OH — September 9, 2025 — Earlier in the summer, in a decisive move to protect preborn life, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt issued an executive order directing all state agencies to cease public funding for any individual or organization affiliated with abortion providers. This action follows the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, which affirmed that states have the authority to determine which providers may participate in their Medicaid programs—including the right to exclude those connected to abortion services.
Ohio must act now!
Ohio has long declared its commitment to life, but declarations must be matched with policy. The Supreme Court has made it clear: states have the power to decide.
The leaders of Toledo, Dayton, Cincinnati, and other right to life groups across the state are circulating petitions urging action from Governor Mike DeWine. We are specifically urging Governor DeWine to issue an executive order or pass legislation to end all public funding for organizations affiliated with abortion providers.
“We encourage Governor DeWine to build on his prolife legacy and take this bold and principled action to stop Medicaid dollars from supporting organizations like Planned Parenthood, whose primary mission is to terminate the preborn,” said Ed Sitter, Executive Director of Greater Toledo Right to Life.
These petitions will be delivered to Columbus at the Ohio March for Life on Friday, October 3rd.
Additionally, we will be requesting that the Ohio Legislature:
Support any executive order which terminates or prohibits contracts with entities that perform, refer for, or are affiliated with abortion services.
Audit current Medicaid and grant programs to identify and eliminate funding pathways that benefit abortion-linked entities.
Ohioans deserve policies that reflect their values. Protect life. Defend the preborn. Stop funding abortion providers.
