Toledo, Ohio - On August 21, the Ohio Department of Health levied a substantial Civil Fine of $40,000.00 against Capital Care Network, Toledo's last abortion clinic. On Saturday, April 1, 2017, thanks to the vigilance of the pro-life sidewalk counselors who were conducting their usual outreach outside the Capital Care Network of Toledo (CCN), we know the truth of what happened that day.
A commotion alerted them that something was very wrong. With cameras at the ready, the sidewalk counselors snapped photos as an abortion patient was taken out the back door of the abortion business facility. Witnesses on the scene reported that she was doubled over in pain and was able to walk only with assistance. The suffering woman was loaded into the back seat of a dark maroon Ford Focus, Ohio license plate #GLH8725, which belonged to a CCN employee.
Another attentive sidewalk counselor followed the private vehicle to Toledo Hospital's emergency entrance, there the CCN patient was simply dropped off and literally left to fend for herself. The CCN employee promptly returned to the abortion facility.
Thanks to the diligence of another sidewalk counselor who filed a complaint about this dangerous practice, the Ohio Department of Health conducted an onsite inspection on April 17.
The State health inspectors discovered that after one woman's abortion, on April 1, the doctor believed that he might have perforated her bowel. The Report said "Capital Care Network failed to follow their own medical emergencies procedure, in which they should have called 911." "Capital Care abandoned their patient by not ensuring that the woman was treated promptly."
On Tuesday, September 12, the Ohio Supreme Court will hear the case, Capital Care Network of Toledo v. State of Ohio Department of Health. This recent fine of Capital Care underscores the need for the Ohio Supreme Court to uphold the 2014 order by the Ohio Department of Health to close CCN for failing to secure a valid transfer agreement.
